The commonest causes of a swollen face of non physical trauma origin would be post inflammatory swelling secondary to erysipelas but angioedema will cause intermittent swelling of the face. Other conditions causing a more fixed swelling include Melkerson Rosenthal syndrome, rosacea, scleredema, dermatomyocytis, scleromyxedema and post contact dermatitis.
